Today, I have a mind-blowing MIDI note generator script that I absolutely love using. It allows me to generate not only interesting rhythm patterns but also sequence melodies in any scale and many configurations, all with just one click of a button!
I present you, MIDI Ex Machina by Rob U 🤯
The MIDI Ex Machina REAPER script can generate random sequences in your MIDI editor. It also comes with an “Euclidean Generator” which is based on the Bjorklund algorithm, this creates super interesting patterns.
I love using this tool to create modern metal riffs! The Euclidean generator works super well for coming up with interesting patterns for riffs and breakdowns. Additionally, I find the sequencer to be a fantastic starting point for riffs. It allows for precise adjustments to note choices, lengths, and timing, which is especially useful.
How to Install MIDI Ex Machina
For this script to work you need the SWS extension installed.
You also need ReaPack installed. If you don’t have it, you can follow these instructions I made: How to install ReaPack.
Once you have both ReaPack and the SWS extension installed, we need to import RobU’s repository. To do so paste the following link into: Extensions > ReaPack > Import a repository.

That’s it!
MIDI Ex Machina is an amazing REAPER script that has been around for quite some time. I have been meaning to make a video about it because I truly believe it's one of the most fun scripts I have ever tried.
It offers such a wide range of features, allowing you to generate random sequences in the MIDI editor and create interesting rhythm patterns with the Euclidean Generator based on the Bjorklund algorithm.
Overall, MIDI Ex Machina is an incredible tool that I highly recommend exploring!
