Here’s a custom action that lets you copy a section of MIDI notes and then paste it, replacing notes in another section.

The custom actions

Here are the two custom actions I use:

Copy the time selection

  • Edit: Select all notes
  • Edit: Copy events within time selection, if any (smart copy)
  • Edit: Unselect all

Paste and replace time selection

  • Script: me2beats_Delete all notes in time selection.lua
  • Move cursor to start of time selection
  • Edit: Paste preserving position in measure.

The second custom action uses a script that comes with Reapack. If you don’t have Reapack, I made a tutorial on how to install it: How to install ReaPack

That’s it!

I use this a lot when I'm writing drums!

For example, if I make some changes to the drums in one section and I want to apply those same changes to another section, I can simply copy the time selection and paste it to replace the notes in the new section.

BTW, you don't necessarily have to use this to replace notes. You can also use it to just copy a section into another section.
